A flavored coffee creamer can make an ordinary cup of coffee feel luxurious, but so many store bought creamers these days are full of artificial flavors and additives. This homemade version adds just a hint of sweetness and lots of rich vanilla flavor.
Makes about two cups of creamer
Time: 40 minutes (mostly steeping time)
1 cup whole milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
¼ cup real maple syrup
1 whole vanilla bean
- In a medium saucepan whisk together the milk, cream and maple syrup until combined. Split the vanilla bean in half lengthwise and scrape the paste inside of it into the pan. Add the outer vanilla bean to the pan and whisk to combine.
- Heat the milk and cream mixture over low heat until it just begins to steam. Remove from heat, cover pan and let flavors steep for 30 minutes. Strain mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a clean bottle with a tightly fitting lid. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
